                  All of the IgG, most of the IgM, and about half of the IgA in
               bovine colostrum are transferred from the bloodstream. In milk, in

               contrast, only 30% of the IgG and 10% of the IgA are so derived; the
               rest is produced locally by lymphoid tissue within the udder.
               Colostrum also contains secretory component both in the free form
               and bound to IgA. Colostrum contains many cytokines. For
               example, bovine colostrum contains significant amounts of IL-1β,

               IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ. Equine colostrum has been shown to
               contain IL-4, IL-6, TNF-α and IFN-γ. These cytokines may promote
               the development of the immune system in the young animal.
