Causes
• Inadequate bedding.
• Knocking a fence.
• Repeatedly banging the stable door.
Prevention
• Provide a thick, comfortable bed.
• Pad the door with thick foam rubber or replace it with a wooden bar or chain during the
day.
• Protect the knees when travelling.
Treatment
• Removal of the cause of the problem is essential. If the problem is identified promptly,
no further treatment may be necessary.
• If the swelling is large and unsightly, the fluid may be drained by the vet and the area
