Causes


        The horse’s neck is very susceptible to injuries from:
  VetBooks.ir  •  falls (Figure 12.5)


        •    pulling back when tied up

        •    rearing up and falling over backwards

        •    colliding with solid objects, e.g. a fence or another horse

        •    having  the  head  and  neck  forced  into  an  outline  through  incorrect  or  inappropriate
             schooling

        •    catching the headcollar on a gate catch or other object

        •    hitting the poll on a low beam or door frame
        •    dental problems

        •    intramuscular  injections  given  into  the  neck.  These  occasionally  cause  temporary

             bruising and soreness, or an abscess to form
