VetBooks.ir WORM CONTROL
Worms can cause a variety of clinical signs from loss of condition to death of the horse.
Adopting an effective worming programme is an essential part of horse care. The actual
programme will vary depending on the individual horse and its environment, and so the best
person to ask for specific advice is your own veterinary surgeon. There is a move now
towards regular diagnostic testing and treating the individual horse only when necessary,
rather than adhering to a routine worming programme. This prevents the horse from being
treated unnecessarily and helps to slow down the development of resistance of the worms to
the treatments we have available. The veterinary name for a worm treatment is anthelmintic.
