circulating inflammatory monocyte numbers are low as is their
  VetBooks.ir  tissue infiltration. At nighttime, when the animal is active, the

               number of circulating monocytes and their tissue infiltration
               increase. Similar rhythms have been observed in neutrophil

               homing to bone marrow and in the expression of TLR9 by B cells
               and splenic macrophages. One practical consequence of this is that
               an animal's response to a vaccine may also depend on the time of
               day when it receives the vaccine.

               Receptors

               Macrophages express thousands of different receptors on their
               surface (Fig. 6.9). All are glycoproteins. Some are PRRs, such as the

               toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the mannose-binding receptor
               (CD206). CD206 can bind carbohydrate chains terminating in
               mannose, fucose, or glucose on bacteria, and permits macrophages
               to ingest nonopsonized bacteria.
