Prognosis
The prognosis is reasonable if the infection is treated straight away with the appropriate
antibiotic. Most cases make good progress within 48 hours. If treatment is delayed, fibrous
tissue may be laid down, resulting in permanent thickening of the affected limb (Figure 3.17).
