The lameness is usually more obvious at trot and may be exacerbated on a hard surface. It
tends to show up more when the horse is worked on uneven ground or on a circle with the
affected limb on the inside. Affected horses show a positive response to a flexion test of the
lower limb and are often uncomfortable when turned in a short circle.
DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosis is made on the clinical signs and is confirmed by nerve blocks and radiography.
Radiographic changes include:
• osteophytes at the joint margins
• new bone around the joint
