• Moxibustion. Selected acupuncture points are warmed by burning a herb, Artemesia
VetBooks.ir vulgaris above the skin. This is especially useful for chronic muscular or arthritic
conditions in cold weather (Figure 14.3).
• Laser acupuncture. The acupuncture points are stimulated by a laser. This has the
advantage that there is no risk of infection and the treatment is pain free. It is believed by
some practitioners to be less effective than needling. However, it is useful for superficial
sites directly over joint capsules where needling is potentially hazardous (Figure 14.4).
