        •    lying down and getting up frequently

             standing in a stretched out posture
        •    grinding his teeth

        •    adopting a urinating stance and straining intermittently



        As the pain increases, there may be:

        •    patchy sweating

        •    attempts to lie down and roll
        •    lying on the back

        •    fast, shallow breathing that develops into blowing with flared nostrils

        •    spasms of severe pain which cause violent rolling and groaning (Figure 17.5)

        •    distension of the abdomen

        •    regurgitation of stomach content from the nostrils.
