ABOUT
THIS MANUAL
This manual could contain information that may not be provided during the live Masterclass Level 1 workshop. Likewise, the live workshop will allow a greater understanding of the topics listed in this manual.
There are many paths that lead to the same destination; The Aerial Movement’s Volume 1 is just one of them. Some of the topics presented in this manual have been summarized from scientific publications, and were selected based on their effectiveness in helping students attain their aerial acrobatics and aerial calis- thenics goals.
Whether we are circus artists, aerial acrobats or calisthenics enthusiasts, or consider ourselves professionals or amateurs, at this level, we are all athletes. And as an athlete, having a basic knowledge of biomechanics and nutrition, and a deep understanding of proper technique, conditioning, and flexibility training, is critical, since these are key components of any movement discipline.
This manual was created to address these knowledge needs, guiding athletes to improve their training sessions through a safe and effective methodology focused on developing a strong aerial acrobatics and aerial calisthenics tech- nique, as well as encouraging the acquisition of a deep understanding of what is happening with their bodies when executing each skill.
While all precautions have been taken in the preparation of this manual, the au- thor assumes no responsibility for errors or omissions, or for problems or dam- ages resulting directly or indirectly caused or allegedly caused by the use of the information contained in this manual.
The word Athlete comes from the ancient Greek άθλος (athlos), meaning 'contest'. An athlete is de- fined as a person who displays physical strength, speed, agility or resistance at an above average level. In ancient times, those that participated in the Olympic Games were given the title "athletes", but in actuality someone who is considered an athlete practices physical activity at an intense level three or more times per week, as well as following a diet and lifestyle adapted to physical perfor- mance. The four pillars of an athlete are resistance, strength, speed and flexibility.
