—STRAIGHT ARMS in the BACK BEAT:
This technique allows us to achieve a a a a a more pow- erful ballistic movement since it involves a a a a a a a “sin- gle leverage point” (shoulders) However we we also lose some height in in the back beat —BENT ARMS in the BACK BEAT:
This technique allows us us to gain height in in the back beat because of a a a a a a a a a a a a greater scapular retrac- tion and chest extension However this will place more stress on on on on the the the glenohumeral area than when using straight arms due to the the the the the position of of the the the the the hu- merus bones thereby increasing the the the the risk of of in- jury While we we we may be be able to to reach more height we we we will be be losing power due to to the the shock absorp- tion effect of the the arms (“double leverage point” shoulders plus elbows) CH 9 DYNAMICS
