CITY OF KNOWLEDGE ACADEMY TEACHER WINS THE BEST TEACHER
IN NIGERIA AT THE MAIDEN TEACH ‘N’ WIN REALITY SHOW, 2024.
Mr. Femi Oyedoyin, a Biology and Agriculture teacher at City of Knowledge Academy, Ijebu-
Ode, has emerged winner of the N2.5 million cash prize and other prizes accrued for coming
first place at Teach ‘n’ Win Reality Show; a teaching competition that celebrates
competence, passion, and professionalism among Nigerian school teachers. He achieved this
feat after making it to the final round where twenty teachers had to compete in a house over
a period of three weeks. The initial screening stage had about 1,000 teachers who applied for
the competition.
In the house, activities engaged in include teaching demonstrations, strategy presentation,
practical display of works, real-time teaching experience, robotics, Chinese language
training, Complete Teacher Training Certification (CTTC) and other activities which the
organizers of the show used in assessing the all-round capacity of the contestants. The
audience was not left out of the selection process as well, as the show allowed for online
voting for contestants, which accrued to a total of thirty percent of the overall scores. A
rotating panel of judges selected from among top school administrators, both inside and
outside Nigeria determined the other seventy percent.
Speaking on his experience in the competition, Mr. Oyedoyin revealed that he was skeptical
about entering the competition initially, as it was to be hosted around the time that his Year
12 students would be taking their WAEC examinations. He however expressed gratitude to
the management team at City of Knowledge Academy, for making arrangements which
permitted his wholehearted participation in the Reality Show. He also expressed gratitude to
his students, some of whose assignments formed the basis of presentations made by
Oyedoyin in the house.
At City of Knowledge Academy, a full boarding school with British Curriculum, Mr. Oyedoyin is known
to always go the extra mile in ensuring excellence for his students. Few weeks before the Teach ‘n’
Win Reality Show, he also received the “Best Team STEM Coach” award for his students’ participation
in CONRAD Challenge. His students generally describe him as “amiable,” “patient,” “innovative” and
“always providing a listening ear.” He is also known to relate well among other teachers and staff at
City of Knowledge Academy.
In addition to the N2.5 million cash prize won by Mr. Oyedoyin, he will also be given a plot of
land in a well-known area, access to training by professional bodies, and three all-expense
paid trips outside the country. City of Knowledge Academy, the school where he teaches, will
also be visited by education professionals who will offer free trainings for teachers in the
school. “Teach ‘n’ Win Reality Show,” the organizers say, will help discover “teachers that will
move education forward in Nigeria and beyond,” and “make our graduates globally
competitive and relevant for the 21st century.”
