Dear Reader:
We have certainly had our share of cold and wet weather since
the holidays. It is hard to get motivated on these days, and for
many people, including those 60 and over, grey and cloudy days
can be depressing. I try to think about a roaring fire and a good
book, curled up on a sofa or easy chair with my dog. I imagine
this scenario even when I am working, because it gives me hope and a certain anticipation of
arriving home to this cozy scenario. However, we all know how difficult it can be to achieve
comfort and quiet time wherever we call home. My cozy imaginings are disrupted as soon as
I enter my house- the dog must go out, and then trapes through the living room with muddy
paws. The cat needs more food in her bowl. The phone rings and it’s my sister who wants to
talk about planning a relative’s birthday party. I get a text saying my prescription is ready at the
drugstore, and later, one of my children call about needing more money on their dining
hall meal plan at college.
While I am glad that my life is full, I did enjoy the thought of sitting with a book – a real book
with pages and folded edges- by a fire with sleepy animals by my side. I will keep looking
forward to that time as soon as I can make it a reality.

In the meantime, let’s all hope for an early Spring here in Hampton Roads. Warmer spring-like
weather puts everyone in a better mood, at least until our wonderful humid summer gets here!
Oh, and by the way, Senior Living Guide will now be distributed twice a year instead of
quarterly. This gives our staff more time to distribute the magazine everywhere we want it to
