     Getting To Know:
Jamey Fereday of Chantel Ray Real
     Estate, Virginia Beach Office
     By Lisa Versprille Burkett
When I sat down to talk to Ms. Jamey Fereday, I was curious why
she wanted to talk to the Sales Manager of a guide for seniors in
     Hampton Roads.
“I like seniors,” she explained, “and some of them are very vulnerable
     during the real estate process.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, sometimes, they don’t get shown all the homes that are available
that they are looking for, and occasionally some in my profession won’t list
all the great and sometimes unusual features that their home has when they are selling. Mostly, no one
should be represented by an agent that doesn’t know contracts backwards and forwards. That’s where I
     really shine.”
Turns out this young lady is a steel magnolia with Journalism and Public Relations degrees from
Louisiana State University and California State University at Northridge.
Arriving in Virginia Beach, she became a sales manager at a local hotel. She quickly realized that she
didn’t want to be stuck inside a building. Real Estate had always interested her, and she proceeded to
learn the area while getting her license. Through this process she saw an untapped demographic-
seniors who were transitioning to other places to live through downsizing and seeking new places to
     call home in Hampton Roads.
She sold 24 homes last year.
“I know my clients would say you can trust me, absolutely. If they don’t like and trust me, why use my
services? They will be protected in closing, I can assure you. I always speak up for what is in their best
     interest.”
Her protective instincts with seniors comes from her family. Jamey’s mother, Lailani, worked as an
Activity Director at a nursing home for many years. As a young person, Jamey helped out at the home,
visiting the elderly ladies who lived upstairs and were unable to come down for activities by themselves.
She talked, sang, played games with them and took them to various events. She was also very close to
     her grandparents.
I asked her why she chose Chantel Ray to be her broker. “Chantel Ray was a clear choice, because of
the things the company does for the community. It’s a very philanthropic atmosphere, devoted to serving
our clients with true honesty and expertise. If you buy or sell with me, I can donate $1000 to a church or
     charity of your choice.”
Jamey apparently does everything in life as completely as possible. Just this year she earned the
designation of Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP). These are realtors who want to best serve
the distinct late-in-life transition needs of seniors by advocating for them, caring for them and genuinely
addressing specific concerns they may have as older adults.
If smarts, hard work and kindness are the trademarks of successful business people, this realtor has a
long career in front of her.
