Day 6 – Tuesday, October 17: Lisbon at Leisure. Enjoy today exploring beautiful Lisbon on
your own. You might want to take a ride on the quintessential Lisbon tramway, perhaps to the
famous Ginjinha Bar. Considered a must-try by countless visitors (and locals, for that matter!),
Ginja is a cherry liqueur made by infusing sour cherries and sugar in aguardente. Saude!

               Proposed Accommodations: Lapa Palace

Day 7 – Wednesday, October 18: On to Evora. Depart Lisbon this morning with your private
driver for a 1 hr 30 min transfer to Evora, one of Portugal’s finest and most delightful towns,
located in the Alentejo region. En route, you’ll make a stop in Arraiolos, a pleasant village
whose foundation dates to the second century BC. Arraiolos is known internationally thanks to
the famous Arraiolos carpets, which have
produced here by local craftsmen and women
since the sixteenth century. Upon arrival in
Evora, enjoy lunch at a classic Alentejo
                                                               restaurant (lunch not included). Following
your meal of local specialties, your local guide
will lead you on a private walking tour of the
Evora historical center, including the Chapel of
the Bones. Due to overcrowding of local
cemeteries, monks moved all the bones to a
single, consecrated chapel and chose to anchor
the bones in cement and display these remains
prominently as a means of contemplating the inevitability of death. Admiring the architecture
and cobblestone streets, one can still see traces of Mezuzot on the doorways of homes lining the
streets. Evora was once home to the largest Jewish community in Portugal. You will visit the
public library, where many Hebrew manuscripts detailing Jewish life in the thirteenth and
fourteenth centuries are kept, as well as the Museum of Evora, where you will see a well-
preserved Hebrew-inscribed tombstone and a cornerstone from the fourteenth-century synagogue
               that no longer exists.

Your guide will leave you off at your accommodations in the afternoon. Balance of the day at
               leisure.
