Music
With the chance to learn a musical instrument from the age of seven, a wide variety of performance opportunities and high calibre specialist staff, music plays a key role in life at the Prep School.
We believe girls should have the chance to learn about and enjoy music from an early age and, with individual lessons in school, we are quick to spot and nurture talent. Girls perform throughout the year in choirs, orchestras, ensemble groups, bands, singing days and concerts both in school and in the local community.
Younger girls learn about rhythm, pitch, reading music and composition and we find that the majority go on to learn one or more instruments. Giving them these basic foundations allows them to develop a lifelong love and appreciation of music and all girls learn to read music from Reception.
More able musicians are invited to join Senior School pupils in their orchestras and we hold several joint school concerts throughout the year.
Our pupils also regularly perform in the Abingdon Music Festival and several achieve their Grade 5 music exams by the time they reach Year 6.
