ENTREPRENEURS’ FORUM
The world of entrepreneurship was opened up to sixth formers as Headington hosted its third Entrepreneurs’ Forum. The event, organised by Headington’s Development team as part of the School’s Activities Week, was led by current parent Sarah Barratt Ball with Business Person of the Year Shamin Durrani as keynote speaker. Girls worked towards the Misha Joukowsky Prize for Entrepreneurship, which was presented by Caroline Jordan. During the day the girls took part in brainstorming sessions, before creating business proposals and presenting them in Headington’s own Dragons’ Den.

HESELTINE TALK
Lord Heseltine addressed the Sixth Form
in November. He started his talk with a
key memory from his childhood – hearing the declaration of war on the radio. He spoke about growing up in that era and the relationships between countries in the post war era. He talked about his education and how he ended up going to university – and how opportunities presented themselves which propelled him into the world of business and then politics. He revealed elements of his political career and key moments, plus his love of gardening – an ongoing theme that has been a key part in his and his wife’s life. The Heseltines recently completed an Arboretum near Banbury and Lady Heseltine has written a book charting the process from start to finish.
Lord Heseltine suggested to the Sixth Form that although the world was very different in many ways when he was growing up, many of the same issues remain today. The girls then had the opportunity to ask questions
– many of them themed around Brexit, the current Conservative Party, Syria, America and President Trump.
Lord Heseltine’s advice to the 6th Form? ‘Look forward to Monday mornings!’
DRAMA STAR
U5 Drama Scholar Lydia Hunt has been given the call up by the National Youth Theatre. Lydia, a familiar face in Headington’s productions since joining the School in U3, auditioned for a place in the prestigious organisation in February. In April, she found she was successful and was invited to take part in a two-week summer course in London. After completing the course, she was offered a place in the National Youth Theatre – which will last until she is 25 and give her the opportunity
to audition for productions which will be performed with the company in London.
GIRLS IMPRESS AT CONFERENCE
On the theme of ‘Take on the World’, this year’s Girls’ Schools Association conference was hosted in Oxford during Caroline Jordan’s year as President.
As well as inspirational, engaging and informative speakers, a number of additional events were held, all featuring impressive performances from Headington girls. Headington’s String Quartet provided the backdrop for a drinks reception at
the Oxford University Museum of Natural History on Sunday 20th November,
while ‘Cantabile’ joined forces with the choir of Christ Church for Evensong at Christ Church Cathedral on Monday 21st November. A drinks reception at the Ashmolean Museum on the Monday also featured performances from ‘Soul Train’, ‘Headington Dance Company’ and other Headington girls.
