Drama
drama is taught throughout the School and is a key aspect of cultural life at Headington. Every girl has the opportunity for self-expression and performance and our purpose-built Theatre enables students to work on stage, front of house or behind the scenes in an authentic professional facility.
In addition to encouraging their appreciation of theatre as an art form, girls develop their understanding of how Drama can be used to explore human behaviour and relationships in a variety of social and cultural contexts. Some choose to act, while others hone their skills as directors, lighting technicians, set builders, costume designers and make-up artists.
A busy programme of extra-curricular events includes two large-scale School productions each year, one smaller scale production and several Drama-based clubs and activities for all ages. From year to year there are joint productions with schools such as Radley College and Magdalen College School and outdoor summer performances set against the stunning backdrop of Davenport Gardens.
Numerous theatre trips are organised by the Drama department, including opportunities to study and see theatre in other countries. The 240-seat Theatre at Headington plays host to a range of touring theatre companies offering music, drama, dance and monologue.
Girls at Headington progress from a weekly class in the Lower School to choosing Drama at GCSE and A Level, or as part of the International Baccalaureate. Many girls also elect to take private Guildhall Speech and Drama exams in school.
