SIMPLIFIED COURSE ON SEE SCIENCE : CHAPTER- FORCE
8 What is acceleration due to gravity?
The uniform acceleration produced in a freely falling body due to the pull of gravity of the earth is
known as acceleration due to gravity.
9 What is weightlessness?
A state of apparent loss of weight is called weightlessness.
10 What is the conclusion of coin and feather experiment?
The conclusion of the coin and feather experiment is "acceleration due to gravity is the same for all the
objects, whatever be their masses, in absence of air resistance."
11 What is universal gravitational constant?
Universal gravitational constant can be defined as the gravitational force between two unit masses
which are separated by a unit distance.
12 What is gravity?
The force of attraction with which a planet pulls every object towards its centre is called gravity.
13 What is the escape velocity?
Escape velocity is defined as the minimum velocity with which a body must be thrown in the space to
just overcome the gravitational pull.
14 What is force?
Force is a push or pull, which changes or tends to change the state, speed, shape and direction of motion
of a body.
15 One kg and 5 kg stones are dropped from the same height on the surface of the moon. Which
one will reach the surface fast and why?
Both the stones will reach the surface of the moon at the same time because there is no air on the moon
and both the stones fall freely with the acceleration due to gravity of the moon.
16. Gravitational field intensity of the earth is 9.8 N/kg. What does it mean?
It means that the earth exerts the gravitational force of 9.8 N on a body of mass 1 kg kept on the
surface.
17 What is mass?
The amount of matter contained in a body is called its mass.
18 How does the gravity acting on a body changes when the body is taken away from the surface
of the earth?
The gravity acting on a body decreases gradually when the body is taken away from the surface of the
earth as the distance between the centre of the earth and the body is increased.
