The impermanence, the changes of sensations: They emerge here, they cease there. They emerge there, they cease here. This is the impermanence of sensations.
When we contemplate in this way—that sensations and the mind are separate—sensations will not cause de lements to emerge. Rather, sensations will become a factor enabling the mindfulness to gain strength, enabling the mind to become clearer. This is because the mind is alert and the mindfulness is more powerful. Hence, as we contemplate the emergence-cessation of sensations; as we contemplate changes of sensations, sensations become a factor for wholesomeness to emerge—not unwholesomeness. That is our mindfulness, concentration, wisdom become more powerful; our endurance (khanti) increases.
We ght against sensations—contemplate the emergence-existence-cessation of sensations. We do not only ght to overcome sensations, we ght to contemplate the emergence-existence-cessation of sensations. This is ghting using our wisdom, not ghting purely with strength. Forcing them (Translator’s note: Sensations) to disappear, to disappear... this will lead to the emergence of sufferings, again. Therefore, sensations are not a factor
