for de lements to emerge. Even mental sensations— they can be used to contemplate emergence-existence- cessation of phenomena. This is the principle of vipassana practice.
Therefore, every time we sit down to practice vipassana, closing our eyes—whatever phenomenon emerges, have the mindfulness to clearly contemplate. Experience with awareness and clear comprehension (sati- sampajanna). Have alertness. Use every phenomenon as a subject of meditation (kammatthana). Then, we will realize that our mindfulness is consistently involved with natural conditions; be they: Thoughts, sound, coldness. Heat that is caused by the phenomenon of the natural elements (dhati) within our physical bodies is also a natural condition. Contemplate with a sense of non-self, then we will really experience the Ultimate Truth.
And, observe this—as we continue to contemplate in this manner, as we experience more clearly, what is our state of mind? What impact do the results have on our mind? This is the way to examine natural conditions as we practice dhamma. This is the result of our contemplation in this manner. When we talk about understanding the natural conditions that emerge, this is the phenomenon that we must contemplate clearly. Then, our understanding of dhamma will become steadily better.
