Principles of Vipassana Kammatthana Practice
At Young Buddhist Association of Thailand Vipassana Center Khemarangsi (Center 4), Ayudhya 1st December 2016
Most of us sitting here already understand the key principles of Vipassana practice. We know what the key focal points of Vipassana Kammatthana (Insight Meditation Practice) are. Vipassana Kammatthana focuses on the wilful contemplation of the Trilaksana (the Three Characteristics of Beings), which is the Ultimate Truth of the physical and mental phenomena. There are many ways to practice dhamma, but Vipassana Kammatthana focuses speci cally on the wilful contemplation of the Trilaksana. I named this course: “Extinguishment of Self—In Search of Dhamma”. In reality, we all know that each time we contemplate conscious phenomena, if we use the sense of “self” as the contemplator, then atta (self, ego) will intrude at regular intervals. When we use the sense of self as the contemplator; we are the observer, we wilfully experience, we wilfully observe. Then, we want things to be as we wish, our sense of self emerges.
