Poem for Grandpa
Written By Stephanie
Our granpa is truly one of a kind, As we got older a mentor for life,
A better granpa you will not find Just last year celebrating 60 years in love with his
A family man through to the core wife,
Life with granpa was never a bore! Together they travelled the world,
On many a dance floor they have twirled!
Birthday parties full of tractor rides,
Fairy liquid on the water slides, Our granpa but also our teacher too,
Family trips to Disney land, There was something all the kids went through…
Nobody safe from the practical jokes being planned. Reversing around the field, backwards through the
trees,
You will know his love of motorbikes and cars, Confident at reverse parking this family must be!
At a car show so many friends it felt like he was a
superstar How lucky we are to have shared all your laughter
And Christmas’s helping Rotary on the sleigh, and love,
But with us there was always time to play! Your legacy will continue as you shine from up
above
At Granma and Granpas many a summer we spent,
In the paddling pool we were content,
Or helping to give the cars a wash,
Granpa coming to inspect our work, oh gosh!
Closing Tribute
The Dash – Written by Linda Ellis
I heard of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend
He read the dates on the gravestone, from the beginning...to the end
He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth
For it matters not, how much we own, the cars...the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real
And always try to understand the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile,
Remembering this special dash might only last a while
So, when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent YOUR dash?
