CHEROKEE RANCH & CASTLE
6113 N. Daniels Park Road, Sedalia, Colorado 80135
Cherokee Castle was built in 1924 as a example of a 15th century castle. Designed by Burnham Hoyt using locally-sourced rhyolite stone and petrified wood, the Castle houses a collection of world-class art, antiques and rare books. As a Tier III SCFD recipient, the Foundation hosts an array of cultural, scientific, and civic events. The 3,400-acre ranch provides refuge for native wildlife, flora and fauna, and ranching for a herd of Santa Gertrudis cattle representing the heritage of the west.
To honor Tweet Kimball’s legacy, The Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation is committed to preserving the natural environment, enhancing cultural life in Colorado and providing educational opportunities devoted to western heritage, wildlife and the arts. Volunteer positions for the Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation range from hosting Castle tours, leading hikes and maintaining the Castle gardens. There are opportunities to become a trained docent and host teas, performing art events, education events and more. For additional information, visit CherokeeRanch.org or call (303) 688-5555.
HELP & HOPE CENTER
1638 Park Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80109
The Help & Hope Center provides assistance to people in Douglas and Elbert counties who are in serious economic need, at risk of homelessness, or in a similar crisis. Immediate needs are addressed by providing food and other necessities for homeless, low income and the working poor in our community. More than 290 volunteers help to meet this challenge.
Morning and afternoon shifts are available Monday through Saturday, with a monthly time commitment of about 6 to 10 hours. Of course, you can serve more than that. Volunteer opportunities exist in the thrift store, the food bank, client services, events and public relations, office or building and grounds.
