"Let your love, God, shape my life."
Psalm 119:41, The Message
With thirty years experience in grant writing, public relations, meeting facilitation, and government liaison work, Becky is always looking for ways to take what she has learned and share it. So when a friend from church asked if she would consider a job change in the fall of 2018, Becky was intrigued.
A few months later Becky became the Communications Director for First Interstate Bank, a role her new boss enthusiastically endorsed by saying, "you are perfect for this." After only 24 hours in the new job, however, Becky says, "I knew I had made a mistake."
"I live my life pretty publicly, on purpose," Becky explains, but no one enjoys having your missteps on full display. She tried reasoning with herself saying, "No one knows they want to quit [a new job] after one day. You have to give it time. If you stick it out you'll be fine." As time went on she continued to feel that it wasn't a good fit for her, but she didn't have a backup plan. Becky calls it her professional kryptonite. "Not knowing," she said, "I don't like not knowing." Realizing that things weren't improving, Becky and her boss agreed that a two-week leave might provide the space she needed to make some decisions. On January 3, 2019 Becky remembers that she, "pulled into the parking lot, threw up, and resigned."
