What Should HSBC Do?
• Gulliver had already departed from HSBC’s history of
growth by acquisition when he instigated the
recovery process by pulling the bank out of 77
countries or businesses through sales or closures.
• HSBC still needs to work to gain trust of its
customers and its shareholders.
• HSBC also needs to become leaner, more cost
efficient and effective. This is likely to manifest in a
switch in business orientation from the west to the
east. Especially as it disposes of weak elements in its
portfolio of businesses.
