Nick Denton
Nick Denton was brought up in London,
and educated at Oxford. He began his
career in writing for the Financial Times. In New York, in
2002, he founded his first Web blog site, called Gizmodo,
which provided candid evaluations of consumer technology.
Later in the year he founded Gawker.Com, which was
launched as he created a number of online sites that traded
in media industry gossip,:
Jezebel (a feminist perspective on women’s life style),
Deadspin (sports), Jalopnik (cars), and
Lifehacker (tech and household tips),
Additionally, he created some more exotic sites, like
Fleshbot, a site devoted to reviews and video clips of
pornography.

Thus, the Gawker Media Group, was a collection of
irreverent, news-breaking blogs that attacked the rich and
powerful, including corporate tax dodgers, with headlines
like “Apple Avoided Paying Billions in Taxes” and “Airbnb, Just
Pay Your Taxes and Follow the Law and Shut Up.” (15) that
gathered more than 100 million viewers globally each
month of which 64 million were U.S. readers.
