Nick Denton

Nick Denton was brought up in London,

and educated at Oxford. He began his
career in writing for the Financial Times. In New York, in

2002, he founded his first Web blog site, called Gizmodo,

which provided candid evaluations of consumer technology.
Later in the year he founded Gawker.Com, which was

launched as he created a number of online sites that traded

               in media industry gossip,:

Jezebel (a feminist perspective on women’s life style),

                       Deadspin (sports), Jalopnik (cars), and

                       Lifehacker (tech and household tips),

Additionally, he created some more exotic sites, like

Fleshbot, a site devoted to reviews and video clips of

               pornography.

                       Defamer (Hollywood focus)and

                       Valleywag, (Silicon Valley focus)

Thus, the Gawker Media Group, was a collection of

irreverent, news-breaking blogs that attacked the rich and

powerful, including corporate tax dodgers, with headlines
like “Apple Avoided Paying Billions in Taxes” and “Airbnb, Just

Pay Your Taxes and Follow the Law and Shut Up.” (15) that

gathered more than 100 million viewers globally each

month of which 64 million were U.S. readers.
