which occurred consequently while creating
and delivering tourism experience to the
visitors.
The sustainable tourism is contextualized by
―economic prosperity, environmental integrity
and social equity.‖ In other words, these three
considered together comprise the boundaries
of the sustainable tourism. Moreover, these
also account for tourism value chain in the
context of sustainable tourism. World Tourism
Organization has outlined 12 sustainability
indicators for the capacity measurement of
tourism sites. These are ―economic viability,
local prosperity, employment quality, social
equity, visitor fulfilment, local control,
community wellbeing, cultural richness,
physical integrity, biological diversity,
resources efficiency and environmental
purity.‖ There might be certain site-specific
indicators but the aforementioned indicators
can be understood as the general indicators for
sustainability. Taking into consideration the
heritage sites in India it is obvious that much
of the popular sites were constructed in the
