1. Designing Learning Media
Designing learning media is an essential process in modern education. It involves the
creation, development, and implementation of tools, materials, or resources used to teach and
facilitate learning. Learning media can include various forms, such as textbooks, slide
presentations, learning videos, educational software, and online learning platforms. The main
goal of designing learning media is to improve understanding, retention and application of
knowledge by students.
The process of designing learning media begins with identifying learning objectives.
Teachers need to understand what they want to achieve from the learning experience.
Once the objectives are determined, an in-depth analysis of student characteristics is the next
step. This includes understanding the student's current level of knowledge and skills, learning
preferences, and specific needs. This information is important for designing media that suits
the target audience.
After student analysis, the next step is to choose the most suitable media and methods
to achieve learning objectives. For example, if the goal is to teach complex mathematical
concepts, the use of visual diagrams and simulation software may be more effective than using
written text alone. This is the Selection stage in the ASSURE approach model.
Then, the implementation stage or Utilization Activities involves the use of learning
media in teaching. Teachers need to ensure that the media is used effectively in the classroom
or relevant learning environment. At this stage, teachers also need to consider how the media
will be integrated into the overall curriculum.
After using the media, the next step is the Revision stage. It involves evaluating media
and teaching with the aim of improving and perfecting them. Feedback from students and their
learning outcomes is key in identifying areas where media or methods may need to be improved
or adjusted. This revision ensures that learning media continues to develop according to student
needs and technological advances.
Finally, the overall evaluation is the Evaluation stage in the ASSURE model. This is
the time to evaluate the effectiveness of learning media in achieving the learning objectives
that have been set. Teachers can use various evaluation methods, such as tests, student surveys,
or observations, to measure student learning outcomes. If the media does not succeed in
achieving these goals, the teacher can return to the analysis stage to identify problems and make
improvements.
In a world of education that is increasingly dependent on technology, designing
effective learning media is becoming increasingly important. An organized, data-driven
process like the one outlined above can help educators create meaningful learning experiences
and support student development.
2. ASSURE Approach Model
The ASSURE approach model is a framework that helps teachers in designing effective
learning media. The abbreviation ASSURE refers to the main stages in this approach:
a. Analysis, the first stage in the ASSURE model is analysis. At this stage, teachers
conduct a thorough evaluation of what they want to teach and to whom. This involves
