3. Uniform and Appearance
We have high expectations of our Sixth Formers and this includes personal
appearance. The uniform encourages identification with the school and nurtures
the notion of community. It supports discipline and good behaviour and instils a
sense of pride in the school. Students are expected to adhere to the uniform
rules on the journey to and from school. The way uniform is worn is as important
as the uniform itself.
(a) The Nevis Sixth Form shall determine its uniform. The decision about what is
and is not acceptable will always remain with the school.
(b) Skirts must be on or below the knee.
(c) Trousers must be worn around the waist securely held by an ordinary
black/brown belt.
(d) Shoes should be black or brown for males. Black, Brown or Maroon is
acceptable for females.
(e) Socks should be white or maroon for females and black or brown for boys.
(f) Shirts and blouses should be buttoned up and tucked in neatly.
(g) Uniforms must be worn on every school day. Students must be granted
permission to be out of uniform. Student may wear the school’s polo T-shirt
with their uniform bottom or regular full-length jeans on Fridays ONLY.
(h) Plain white vest or T-shirts only may be worn under shirts or blouses.
(i) Uniforms should be clean and tidy at all times.
(j) Boys’ hair must be cut low (no longer than two inch) and be well groomed at
all times or when longer must be worn in single plaits only.
(k) Fingernails must be short, clean and unpainted.
(l) Ear sticks are not allowed.
(m) Girls may wear a simple round ear knob in the lower earlobe. No other jewelry
will be allowed except for a watch.
(n) No jewelry except for a watch will be allowed for boys.
(o) Tattoos must be covered.
(p) Boys must look smart and be clean shaven.
(q) Girls’ hair should be neat, tidy, and appropriate for a professional working
environment. Extreme styles and hair colouring will not be permitted.
