Haytham El-Wardany Writer and translator Haytham El-Wardany read extracts in Arabic from his work The Book of Sleep, which explores multiple dimensions around the act of sleeping. Born in Cairo but now living in Berlin, El-Wardany’s current focus is the concept of truth and its relation to the post-revolutionary context. He received the Best Newcomer of the Year Sawiris Prize for Literature in 2005 and has participated in art projects in Berlin and Cairo. His recent books are The Book of Sleep (2017, Alkarma Publishing House, Cairo) and How to Disappear (2013, Kayfa ta Publications, Cairo / 2018, Sternberg Press, Berlin/New York). 141
