Natural gas – the future fuel of the transport industry
Natural gas is the most eco-friendly fuel as it significantly reduces many air pollutants including Nitrogen Oxide and Carbon Dioxide.
The new IVECO Stralis NP (natural power) is the first viable long-haul gas-powered truck that both Emerald and IVECO believe is on the cusp of revolutionising the transport industry. Not only does it cause less air pollution, the engines are also much quieter thus reducing noise pollution in city centres and during night deliveries.
Experts in its field, IVECO has been manufacturing gas trucks for over 20 years and already has a vehicle parc of 1500 throughout Europe. Gas Networks Ireland has recently announced its plans to start building 70 filling stations in anticipation of the growth of gas-powered vehicles throughout the country.

“We believe that the ground-breaking Stralis NP will lead the way in a new era of environmentally friendly transport.At last there is a truck that performs as well as its diesel equivalent with the same output of 400 BHP and 1,700 Nm torque but with lower running costs and environmental impact.
There are also grants available of up to €20,000 per CNG-ready vehicle to help to make this an affordable reality for hauliers. It’s really a very exciting time for the industry”.
