The formal presentation of certificates then took place. The Graduates were presented with their Diploma Certificates by Professor Brian Fynes FCILT and CILT Chartered Membership Certificates by the President, Helen Noble FCILT. The final part of the presentation was the awarding of Student of the Year to Simon Brady for his overall academic results over the two years of the Diploma. As President, Helen spoke some kind words about Simon and the work he completed while working on a fulltime basis. Simon was surprised and delighted to win the award with all his classmates giving him a round of applause and a standing ovation. Simon received a special trophy and certificate from the Institute for his achievement.
The graduation marked Helen’s first official role as President of the Institute in Ireland since taking over in October. Helen then gave the closing remarks during the ceremony and spoke of the journey graduates have been on and their continued involvement with the Institute as members in the future.
A reception was then held for the graduates, family and friends following the ceremony. This gave the graduates time to mingle and take photographs with the class and loved ones.
The Institute would like to thank Professor Brian Fynes, FCILT, for being our guest speaker and his colleagues at the Smurfit Business School for the use of the lecture room. The facility made the graduation a great success and added to the enjoyment on the day. We would also like to thank Urban Picnic for all the catering and refreshments on the day.
A special thank you for arranging and managing the event goes to CILT Team of Julia Olan, Tim Hayes, Pauline Lacey, Imelda Brown, Amy Kelly, Jerry Meredith and Áine Holden.
The CILT Team would like to congratulate the Class of 2017 with their achievement. We look forward to having graduates as active members of the Institute and wish each and every one the very best in their future careers.
Also in attendance on the day was Immediate Past President Paddy Doherty, FCILT, and Kevin Byrne, FCILT, International President. Council members that came on the day were Secretary Patrick Casey, FCILT and John Henry, FCILT.
