Pat Treacy Appointed New CEO at CILT
Pat Treacy FCILT has recently been appointed as the new CEO of CILT. Pat will lead the delivery of a newly developed and ambitious ‘Business Plan’ for the Institute.
He is also responsible for the co-ordination and development of education services provided by the Institute including the CILT Degree/Diploma and state examinations (CPC, DGSA and ADR). He is determined to further develop the breath of publications and quality
of services to members and key stakeholders, which will enhance the status and reputation of CILT as the primary voice for professionals in our industry sector.
Pat has highlighted the fact that as an island nation with an open trading economy our industry sector is of strategic and operational importance for business across all sectors. Exports remain the primary engine for Ireland’s growth.
As one of the biggest exporters of pharmaceuticals in the world (28% of total exports), Ireland’s location means that the supply chain has to work effectively for goods and produce to reach international markets. It can also have a limiting effect on the requirement for skills and training in the sector as multinational companies may choose to use hub operations elsewhere closer to markets.
Exports are beginning to grow as the recovery endures. GDP is also growing but this growth brings new challenges and will expose both infrastructural and skills/people gaps. These pinch points will have to
be addressed proactively if the growth is to continue and Pat believes that CILT can play a positive role in helping to address skills shortages and help make the sector attractive to potential employees.
The key areas of focus for capability and skills development are regulatory, legislative and technological change. CILT is keen to play an active role in addressing the challenges and supporting the development of enhanced supply chain capabilities which can enable Ireland to move up the value chain in response to increasing regional and global competiveness.
The Institute has developed three key strategies which will be deployed in pursuit of its plans to support our industry sector.
They are as follows:
• Growth through Education & Services
• Enhancing our brand
• Application of strong governance policies and procedures
Prior to his appointment at CILT, Pat was previously Supply Chain Management Director for Diageo’s beer operations in Europe. He has held a number of senior positions across many disciplines including Operations, Change Management, Human Resources and Supply Chain Management over the years.
