The 102,000-sf facility’s exterior is sheathed in large
expanses of glass that creates a dynamic sense of
movement throughout the building and provides
an abundance of natural light to the learning
spaces.
The learning and training spaces were developed
in collaboration with CCC faculty and industry
partners and include technology-rich classrooms,
automotive and diesel engine labs, simulated
driving facilities, and a high-tech warehouse that
will act as the City Colleges’ supply chain hub.
The center also features a 2.5-acre commercial
driver’s license training facility, truck loading docks,
and roadways for large vehicles.
The LEED Gold facility includes unique features
including a transpired solar collector that supports
a highly efficient building envelope and efficient
mechanical systems that offset the amount of fresh
air required for the automotive environment.
The 7-acre site includes roadways and pavements
that support the commercial driver’s license
training facility. Site improvements include
extensive rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable
pavers to support best management practices for
stormwater. New landscaping includes 185 new
trees and thousands of native plants.
