I live in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges
and feel extremely privileged to be
living adjacent to a National Park less
than 25Km from a major city. In my area
I am fortunate to also be surrounded by
a high concentration of artists dotted
throughout this area. Perhaps the theory
about cold places breeding creativity is
true, at least it certainly is in our area.
I become very relaxed when I’m sewing,
which is a good thing as I juggle life with
my two boys and my work in academic
libraries where I have worked for a long
time. Time disappears when I’m
working on a project and I can easily see
5 hours or more on a weekend morning
as I make the most of the natural daylight
that I miss out on during the week,
especially in our Melbourne winters.
Lucky for me, my work is very portable so
although I don’t have my own studio to
work out of, I take my embroidery with
me wherever I go, be it on my daily
commute the city, or in the car so I can
get a few stitches in before the kids finish
school for the day.
