SRC Members Participate in Cultural Exchange in China
Members of DUT’s Student Representative Council (SRC) recently participated in the Global Youth Camp at SIAS University, Xinzheng, Henan Province in China.
SRC President Mr Solomzi Zoleka, and Deputy President Mr Bongani Mchunu were accompanied by Dean of Students Dr Clement Moreku. The youth camp was designed to promote cultural exchange and global understanding among students
from more than 20 countries.
Moreku said DUT is committed to producing local citizens that establish mutually beneficial partnerships. The camp was in line with one of the pillars of the institution’s ENVISION2030 strategy that aims to enhance global engagement and foster cultural competence.”The annual event is held every summer. It provides an opportunity for students and faculty from partner universities to engage in cultural and academic exchanges, promoting global understanding and cooperation,” said Moreku.
He added that the experience equips participants with a broader worldview and innovative perspectives, which are essential to address global challenges and contribute to diverse, inclusive communities.
Zoleka said that the workshops, lectures on international relations and global leadership, and cultural exchange activities gave him a deeper understanding of China’s culture and education system. He added that he made valuable connections with international peers and university officials and gained insights into innovative educational practices and leadership strategies that will hopefully be implemented at DUT.
Mchunu said that he was privileged to present a session on global warming and its impact. For him, the highlight of the trip was the cultural summer celebration, where each participating country showcased its traditional dances, music, and cuisine.“Chinese
culture is rich and deeply rooted in history and tradition. I was struck by the respect for elders, the importance of education, and the emphasis on community and harmony. The blend of ancient traditions and modern advancements was evident in every aspect of life at SIAS University.”
