The 1% decrease is primarily attributed to the accreditation challenges associated with the Dental Technology Programme, as a result of which there
were no students enrolled
for this qualification. Also,
the enrolment numbers for Nursing were reduced as a result of the changeover to a new programme, while the Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care did not enrol any students.

The higher than expected graduation rates are a result of two main factors. The first is that the university was phasing out the old Bachelor of Education (FET) programme, whose last intake was in January 2019. This development prompted a good number of pipeline students who had paused their studies
to return in order to complete their qualification; these would eventually form part of the 2023 and 2024 graduate cohorts.
The second factor for increased graduation rates was that there was over-enrolment in the first year of introducing the new BEd (Senior Phase and FET Teaching) in 2020.

     The Faculty of Engineering
and the Built Environment was unable to meet its enrolment targets for the 2021 and 2022 academic years; this has resulted in declining throughput rates that in turn have caused a 24% overall performance drop. The FTEN student numbers have since been steadily improving, and an overall turnaround is expected in 2027, while teaching and learning interventions should improve throughput and success rates.
