Partnerships built to last
During the last 50 years, SAPREF has heavily relied on suppliers and service providers to carry out specialist work and deliver specialist services. In 2011, for example, the total amount approved and committed by SAPREF on goods and services from suppliers and service providers was R1,327billion. Here, several long-term core service providers reflect on their journey with SAPREF.
 SAPREF/Fluor Igoda Alliance
The Alliance between SAPREF and Fluor South Africa, an engineering, procurement and project and construction management company (EPCM), started in 1992 with two process engineers. Today the Alliance is known as the Fluor Igoda Alliance and boasts 93 members providing multi- disciplinary EPCM services, assistance in plant shutdowns and project management.
Kevin Mitchell, Alliance Manager, says Fluor Igoda values the partnership with SAPREF: “We see it as mutually beneficial. Long may it continue.”
Engineering Process Control
(EPC)
Rotork started
trading on site in
1968, hiring out
labour to SAPREF,
doing instrument and electrical contracting and carrying out project contracts and maintenance work. In 2003 the company became known
as Engineering Process Control. Says Fred Wittstock, EPC Technical Member, who has been on site for 45 years: “Our journey with SAPREF has been long and rewarding. We congratulate SAPREF as they celebrate 50 years, and we look forward to working together into the future.”
Goss & Balfe
Goss & Balfe was
founded in 1974 and the
growth and prosperity of
the company has at all
times been associated
with SAPREF, according to Mark Goss, a Director at the company. “We congratulate SAPREF on its exceptional achievement of 50 years in business.
We are proud to be associated with SAPREF, given the calibre of people that SAPREF has had over the years and its commitment as a national strategic player in this country. We are sure your next 50 years will be as successful,” he says.
KAEFER Contracting Services
KAEFER’s journey with SAPREF started in 1999. Says Rob Ross, Operations Director: “From the first day of our new contract we realised that SAPREF was going to be a special client, a client that walked its talk, especially when it came
to safety. Safety was a partnership with SAPREF and KAEFER attained first one million safe hours at SAPREF, then two, three, and four. When we eventually reached over nine million safe hours, we saw the true benefits of working as one team. KAEFER is proud to be associated with a company
like SAPREF, a company that has similar beliefs in both sustainability and ethics. We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship into the future.”
Aveng Grinaker-LTA
Aveng Grinaker-LTA’s
association with SAPREF
dates back to 1965,
according to Peter
Davies, Divisional
Managing Director, M&E
Construction. He reflects:
“We have worked continuously at SAPREF since 1965, doing maintenance, projects and major Turnarounds. In addition, we have been the main mechanical, piping and tankage core contractor since 1998. We currently employ 230 staff on our current maintenance work
but this number can increase to ±1500 during Turnarounds. We wish SAPREF every success for a safe 50 more years.”
