Professor Faizal Bux
Institute FOR Water and Wastewater Technology
Research, Innovation and Engagement
Prof Faizal Bux is the Director of the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology and NRF-SARChI Chair holder in wastewater treatment. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of water and wastewater treatment technology.
His research focus areas include wastewater treatment, and beneficiation, bioremediation, algal biotechnology and wastewater-based epidemiology. As a NRF B-rated researcher and ASSAf member, 58 Masters and Doctoral students have graduated under his supervision. To date, he has hosted 36 Post- Doctoral Fellows/ Research Associates. He has published >225 manuscripts in leading
ISI journals, 22 book chapters and has been well-cited (>12800, h-index-53). He serves as the leader and coordinator for several national and international projects and built a substantive track record gaining national and international accolades. In 2021, he received the WRC Legends Award, for recognition for his contribution in the water sector and was appointed as a Senior Fellow of WISA.
