Institute for Systems Science
Research, Innovation and Engagement
Mathew Aibinu is a researcher in the Institute for Systems Science and KZN e-Skill Colab at Durban University of Technology (DUT).
He obtained a PhD in Mathematical Science from University of KwaZulu-Natal. He works in the geometric functional analysis area by presenting iterative algorithms for finding the fixed points of several nonlinear operators in suitable spaces. In addition, he uses numerical and analytical methods to study the applications of differential equations such as in biological sciences and fluid dynamics. He has won several awards, both nationally and internationally. In September
2022, he won the Isaac Newton Institute ECR Bursary to attend a workshop titled ‘Analysis of dispersive systems’. Also in 2022, he got Emerging Researcher’s Award administered by the DUT University Research Capacity Development Grant Allocation. Currently, the Department of Science and Innovation and National Research Foundation, Center of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (DSI-NRF CoE-MaSS) funds him for Postdoctoral Research in DUT.
