  Chartered Secretaries And Administrators Of Nigeria Conference
In a notable virtual presentation by Professor Oludayo Olugbara, Executive Dean of the Faculty, addressed the Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) conference. The conference, themed “Digital Economy and Society 5.0,” saw the participation of prominent figures within ICSAN and esteemed guests from the academic and professional sectors.
A particularly heartfelt moment was Professor Olugbara’s recognition of Mr Oluseyi Abiodun, whom he had mentored during his undergraduate days and supervised his thesis in 1998 at the University of Ilorin. Expressing his pride in Abiodun’s achievements, Olugbara highlighted the significance of mentorship and its lasting impact on professional growth and development. In closing, Professor Olugbara reiterated his appreciation to ICSAN for the platform to share insights and engage with fellow professionals committed to advancing the field of chartered secretaries and administrators.
8Th International Conference Organised By The Association Of Sri Lanka Academics
In June 2024, Ms Nolwando Mgilane, a lecturer in the Financial Accounting department, recently had the notable opportunity to participate in the 8th International Conference organised by the Association of Sri Lanka Academics in Japan.The prestigious event focused on the theme of leveraging technology and governance for natural capital management. Her active participation, particularly in the PhD colloquium, significantly bolstered her research endeavours. Ms Mgilane presented an influential paper titled “Earnings Management and Social Responsibility Reporting”. The paper garnered considerable interest from industry stakeholders, reinforcing the importance of her research not only in academic discourse but also within industry circles.
Undergraduate Students Achieves International Recognition In Risk Management Challenge
The DUT Faculty of Accounting and Informatics has long been committed to providing its students with a comprehensive education in Internal Auditing, with a strong emphasis on risk management.This commitment has recently paid off as a team of four students from the department of Auditing and Taxation has been recognised internationally for their exemplary work in risk management, securing a position in the top 8 in a global competition involving 38 universities from nine countries.
The DUT students, participated in the Spencer RIMS Risk Management Challenge that took place in San Diego, USA Convention Centre in May 2024. The team comprised of Ms T Aiyer (Team Leader) – Postgraduate Diploma in Auditing, Mr K Nkala – Postgraduate Diploma in Auditing, Ms A Nzuza – Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing, Ms A Chaithu – Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing.
Milestone Achievement: Empowering Students Through Strategic Partnerships
Through a ground-breaking Memorandum of Understanding
with the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET), the department secured a remarkable sum of R3 250 000, to further empower students and foster industry-relevant skills. This substantial financial support paves the way for the enhancement of opportunities for 50 deserving students within the department. Each student will receive R65 000 to facilitate their immersion and training within the industry, enabling them to gain hands-on experience and develop critical skills necessary for success in their respective fields.
Professor Ferina Marimuthu Celebrated 25 Years At Dut:
DUT’s Professor Ferina Marimuthu celebrated 25 years at DUT, recalling her time from a student to first female professor of accounting at DUT. Professor Marimuthu is a distinguished academic and researcher in the fields of Accounting and Finance, currently serving as the Head of Department of Financial Accounting in the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics. Professor Marimuthu gave insight into her exhilarating journey from being a ‘starry-eyed’ student to becoming an Associate Professor. “Interestingly, this milestone coincides with my wedding anniversary. I started my journey at the ML Sultan campus the same year I got married,” she chuckled.
Dut Robotic Club Students’ Triumph
The Faculty of Accounting, and Informatics Arm (E3)NGAGE Robotics Club clinched a prestigious victory by securing the Formula Student RS Fund 2024. Inspired by the Engineering Practice Innovation Projects (EPIP) model, which emphasises excellence, perseverance, innovation, and professionalism, the team’s pursuit of excellence has garnered global recognition. Of a competitive pool of 78 university entries, from 21 different countries worldwide, the Arm (E3)NGAGE Robotics team emerged as one of the 30 winning teams. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the team proudly stands as the sole representative from Africa to be selected for this esteemed fund.
