 Faculty of Health Sciences Decolonisation Workshop
The Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and CELT, hosted a decolonisation workshop on Tuesday 26 November, facilitated by Dr Rhea Koch from North West University.
   ABE Bailey Bursary.
The International Education and Partnerships unit at the DUT hosted a Celebratory Tea for a Master’s in Homeopathy student, Siphelele Mchunu, who was announced as the DUT Abe Bailey Travel Bursary winner for 2024. This celebration was held in the Council Chambers on the ML Sultan campus in Durban on Tuesday, 27 August 2024.

TheAbeBaileyTravelBursaryisawardedtooutstandingstudents who have shown exceptional leadership qualities and strong service ethics.The winner of theAbe BaileyTravel Bursary 2024, Mchunu, has an excellent academic record and was awarded Cum Laude in his Bachelor’s Degree and is currently studying towards the Master’s Degree in Health Sciences: Homeopathy. Dr Pillay and Dr Prakaschandra were promoted to become Associate Professors.
RADIOGRAPHY AWARDS DAY
The Department of Radiography hosted a student awards function on 16 August 2024 on the ML Sultan campus to congratulate hard-working students and inspire all students strive in their academic goals. Awards were broken down into three categories: Fun, Professional and Academic. Those in the professional category were nominated for displaying signs of leadership and for their alignment with the lived values of the DUT as entrenched in the ENVISION2030, including class representatives, class participation and best dressed students.
In the academic category students were awarded for their excellence during the 2023 academic year and included the top three achievers in each module, at each level of the four programmes offered by the department as well as top three achievers in Diagnostic Radiography, Ultrasonography and Radiotherapy.The peak of the function was awarding of the best academic achievers in the entire department.The fun category included aspects such as Mr and Ms Sport, Class clown, Mr and Ms Personality, and Social butterfly. Students were involved in the planning and nomination of their colleagues particularly in the Fun category.
