the timeous and correct capture of data as evidenced in the Higher Education Information Management System (HEMIS) report.
A Research Data Management System (RDMS) was developed for the administration of Research Output Units (journal articles; books; book chapters; conference proceedings) and caters for the analysis of research output and trends, benchmarks UNIZULU research output with peer institutions, has validations of data captured and automatic notifications of potential problems, and enables the exportation of reports in the prescribed DHET format for submission. The system was piloted with the current 2020 submissions and are now fully functional and live. Training was conducted to the nominated persons from all faculties and the Research Office.
Consistency in research publications and related subsidy income, advances in technology transfer patent disclosures, notable patent registrations on strategic international markets, and growth in postgraduate (master’s and PhD) throughputs, reveal UNIZULU as a university on the rise. The
latest official units for UNIZULU’s research output is for 2018. Following the assessment of the research outputs by DHET, UNIZULU attained a total of 212.6885 units. Overall, the 2018 units represent an increase of 20.9185 units from the 191.77 units awarded for the 2017 publications. UNIZULU’s unofficial publication trend for all publications (books, journals and conference proceedings) in 2019 amounts to 267 3750. The University remains focused on increasing the number of researchers. UNIZULU increase its rated researchers from 16 in 2019 to 20 across all faculties in 2020. Advancement and increased research awareness are contributing positively to the increase in the number of students receiving postgraduate qualifications. A key focus of the University’s research includes increasing internationalisation, as evidenced by the partnerships entered into with some of the research fellows. The Institution has active international collaborations with Sweden, China, France and Jamaica.
The Library and Information Services (LIS) continued to provide quality service to support teaching and learning and research. The usage of the research commons that was
