  Professor Firoza Haffejee

Firoza Haffejee is an avid researcher in Public Health, with particular emphasis on HIV and Women’s Health Issues.
                            With over 45 peer reviewed publications, she has been the recipient of a number of research awards. Her special interest is on the social science aspects of disease prevention. She has published extensively on the risk factors for HIV acquisition and factors that impede prevention of HIV, particularly among young people and women. She is passionate about upliftment of women. This is evident from her community engagement work among
impoverished communities at both Kenneth Gardens and the Dennis Hurley Centre in Durban. Prof Haffejee has supervised many postgraduate students and mentored interns from the National Research Foundation. She has also mentored international postdoctoral fellows. In addition, she has many international and national collaborations among various universities as well as the Department of Health.
