Professor Santhosh Kumar Kuttan Pillai

Santhosh Pillai is an NRF C2-rated researcher and an Associate Professor at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science.
His research interests include biomass valorization to bioenergy and value-added products; microbial enzymes & metabolites for bioremediation/food preservation; neutraceuticals from indigenous foods and marine sources; and plastic biodegradation. He is actively engaged in postgraduate student capacity development and graduated three PhDs, six Masters students and mentored two postdoctoral fellows. Currently, he supervises four PhDs, six Masters, and one postdoctoral fellow. His research contributions include 40
publications in high-impact factor journals, nine book chapters, and presentations at national and international conferences. He serves as a reviewer for over 50 Journals and editor for Frontiers in Microbiology Journal. Besides being a member of the BRICS consortium, he has also collaborated with researchers from national (ARC, NICD, UKZN) and international (Slovakia, India, China, USA) institutions and has successfully obtained research funds from ARC,TIA, and the NRF.
