  Ms Hlengiwe Mtetwa

Hlengiwe Mtetwa is in the first year of her doctoral studies, in the area of environmental health, focusing on the development of wastewater- based epidemiological approaches for the surveillance of tuberculosis (TB) infections and antimicrobial resistance.
                            Ms Mtetwa received her MHSc in Environmental Health (Cum Laude and Dean’s Merit award) from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the DUT in 2022. During her masters studies she published three peer-reviewed papers and presented at local and international conferences, including the prestigious 6th and 7th World One Health Congress in London (2020) and Singapore
(2022) respectively. She has been a project coordinator for the Grand Challenges Antimicrobial project which was funded by the South African Medical Research Council and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She was appointed as Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) Fellow in 2022 and received the Oppenheimer Trust Bursary for the 1st year PhD.
