 4. ACHIEVEMENTS AND MILESTONES
 In collaboration with the Department of Media, Language and Communication, the CI at DUT hosted a farewell ceremony for international exchange students from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) in June 2025. The event celebrated the successful conclusion of the isiZulu Summer Camp—the first exchange programme of its kind between DUT and BFSU. This milestone initiative underscores DUT’s commitment to cultural exchange and language immersion.
 A significant development for the ICON was the launch of the Postgraduate Diploma in Peace Studies, which will be offered under the Faculty of Management Sciences starting in 2026. ICON will coordinate the programme, with centre staff involved in both teaching and administration. The qualification will complement existing Master’s and PhD supervision in public management with a focus on peace studies and is designed for professionals and community members seeking to enhance their expertise in this field.
In recognition of his sustained contributions to the scientific community, the Director of IWWT, was selected as a finalist in the Lifetime Achievement category at the NSTF Science Awards.
The CSERI marked several highlights during the quarter with ten entrepreneurs participating in the Ignite Activation event hosted by
Play Your Part at The Station with one securing a third place in the Pitch Perfect and receiving business equipment valued at R500,000 from the Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency (SEFDA), enabling the launch of a men’s health clinic.
Within the FEBE, several impactful projects and outreach initiatives were undertaken. Engagements with schools and communities through open days and career exhibitions remained a priority.The Department of Electrical Power Engineering initiated two strategic projects: a grey water harvesting system and the development of a hydrogen-powered boat, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable innovation and student-led research.The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering continued developing the Clinic Kiosk Project in collaboration with Innobiz DUT. This initiative aims to improve primary healthcare queuing systems and has already enhanced students’ technical and entrepreneurial skills.
