 1. INTRODUCTION
 The Fourth Quarter Engagement Report for 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the progress made by the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in various key areas, underscoring the institution’s continued commitment to academic excellence, research, and engagement with positive social impact. As DUT works towards realizing its strategic vision encapsulated in ENVISION2030, the university has made notable strides in expanding its community partnerships, strengthening research initiatives, and fostering international collaborations. These efforts have been pivotal in enhancing DUT’s impact both locally and globally.
 The second quarter of 2025 marked a dynamic and impactful period for the Durban University of Technology (DUT), characterised by deepening strategic engagements across academia, industry, government, and community sectors.This report provides a comprehensive overview of the quarter’s key initiatives, achievements, and partnerships, all firmly anchored within DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategic framework. These collaborative efforts continue to advance the university’s commitment to delivering transformative education, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable societal development.
DUT’s global presence was further strengthened through its participation in the Global Sustainable Development Congress in Istanbul, reaffirming the university’s commitment to international collaboration and sustainable innovation.
The FMS continued to build strategic partnerships, including exploring a collaboration with AmaZulu FC, while promoting internal cohesion through its Engagement Roadshow. These
activities support DUT’s goal of responsiveness to societal needs and align faculty efforts with the institution’s strategic priorities.
The EBE sustained its focus on academic excellence and community impact through partnerships with industry, STEM outreach, and projects advancing sustainability within KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.
The IWWT continued addressing national water challenges by working with municipalities, government departments, and research funders.The institute developed innovative and sustainable water solutions, contributing directly to national development objectives and supporting DUT’s ENVISION2030 pillars.
CI continued to play a central role in promoting Chinese language and cultural exchange, offering 16 courses to 368 students. It supported staff PhD opportunities in China, introduced the “Chinese+” vocational training programme, enhanced university- enterprise partnerships, and led the establishment of Africa’s first NishanWorld Centre for Confucian Studies.These efforts reflect
