DUT’s broader internationalisation agenda and deepen educational and cultural cooperation between China and South Africa.
The ICON remained at the forefront of peacebuilding, violence prevention,and social justice advocacy through research,community engagement, and policy dialogue. Working at the intersection of academia, civil society, and government, ICON’s initiatives align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, strengthening DUT’s commitment to ethical leadership and societal transformation.
The TTI Directorate, along with its sub-units, Innobiz DUT, Technology Stations, and CSERI, remained instrumental in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.The directorate provided support for knowledge exchange, intellectual property development, and commercialisation, empowering both students and staff while enhancing DUT’s position as a driver of socio-economic development.
The Corporate Affairs (CA) successfully coordinated the 2025 Autumn Graduation ceremonies, managing 30 events over 10 days in celebration of student success. In addition, CA supported major employee wellness initiatives, including DUT’s participation in the Comrades Marathon and the SPAR Women’s Challenge. Progress was also made in student recruitment and schools’ liaison, with targeted outreach to Grade 12 learners ahead of the 2026 Central Applications Office (CAO) cycle. The annual DUT Open Week attracted thousands of prospective students, complemented by focused recruitment initiatives such as a dedicated campaign in Empangeni, which helped extend DUT’s reach in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit (AARU) continued to work with both internal and external partners to mobilise donor income in support of students. Key engagements in Q2 focused on building relationships with trusts, foundations, and corporate stakeholders to secure funding for tuition and housing.A full update on activities in this area will be provided in the third-quarter report.
The Community Engagement Office made significant progress in strengthening DUT’s connection with surrounding communities. In collaboration with faculties, departments, and social partners, the office implemented targeted outreach programmes aimed at expanding educational access, providing career guidance, and supporting skills development—particularly in urban, peri-urban, and rural school communities.
This report highlights the progress made by DUT through its faculties and units during Q2 2025, showcasing achievements and reinforcing DUT’s commitment to expanding its institutional and community presence. Through strong partnerships and impactful programming, DUT is advancing educational transformation and societal progress.
